Configurable Terrain Response 2 for Jaguar & Land Rover — unlock the full Terrain Response 2 / Auto and add drive-programme options such as Dynamic, Winter and Configurable Dynamic Mode. Set via the CCF and coded to your VIN / As-Built over OBD, remote & mobile, no parts required.

What this activation does

  • Enables the Terrain Response 2 menu (and Auto Terrain Response where fitted) so you can select the correct driving programme for the surface.
  • Adds extra drive programmes on top — Dynamic (sport), Winter reset (low-grip) and the Configurable Dynamic Mode menu — depending on the option you choose.
  • "Auto" versions let the vehicle detect the surface and pick the terrain programme for you.
  • Applied over OBD and coded to your VIN / As-Built — no hardware fitted.

Key terms explained

  • Terrain Response 2: Land Rover's system of driving programmes tuned for different surfaces (e.g. grass/gravel/snow, mud, sand, rock crawl). "Auto" lets the car pick the programme itself.
  • Dynamic: The sport drive programme — sharper throttle, firmer damping and quicker gearchanges.
  • Winter reset: A low-grip / winter drive programme for snow and slippery surfaces.
  • Configurable Dynamic Mode: The menu that lets you individually tune throttle response, gearbox, steering weight and adaptive dampers.
  • JDO: JLR drive-optimisation grouping used in the configuration list to bundle the extra drive programmes with Terrain Response.
  • CCF (Car Configuration File): The master list of feature flags stored in the vehicle. Setting a value here switches a factory feature on or off. All of these activations are done by editing the CCF, not by fitting parts.
  • As-Built: Your vehicle's original factory configuration record, tied to the VIN. Every change is written back against your As-Built so the car stays consistent with JLR records.
  • Coded to your VIN: The change is applied to your specific vehicle over the OBD diagnostic port — remote and mobile, no bench work and no new hardware.
  • Error / Undefined: Factory enumeration place-holders that exist inside the parameter list. They are not real choices — do not select them. Pick the plain-English option that matches your vehicle.

The CCF parameters behind Terrain Response 2

The dropdown above maps to these values in the Car Configuration File:

Terrain Response 2 Auto needs the second-generation module set (2013 on); on earlier cars only the manual programmes are available. We read the As-Built and offer only the options your module set supports.

Terrain Response on Land Rover — 2005 to 2026

The system has been on Land Rover cars since 2005; this is the earliest it existed on each line:

ModelPlatformModel yearsNotes
Discovery 3 / Range Rover SportL319 / L3202005–2009Terrain Response introduced on the 2005MY Discovery 3 (launched April 2004) and the 2005 Range Rover Sport. Pre-2006 builds are outside our range.
Range RoverL3222007–2012Terrain Response added with the 2007MY update (alongside the TDV8 and electronic parking brake).
Range Rover / Range Rover SportL405 / L4942013–2022Terrain Response 2 with Auto introduced 2013; Dynamic programme on L494.
DiscoveryL4622017–2026Terrain Response 2 from the 2017MY Discovery 5.
Evoque / Discovery SportL551 / L5502019–2026Terrain Response 2 standard on Evoque from 2019MY and Discovery Sport from 2020MY.
Defender / Range Rover / Range Rover SportL663 / L460 / L4612020–2026Terrain Response 2 with Auto and Configurable Terrain Response.

Earliest model year the system existed on each line; a given car still needs the matching module set. We confirm by VIN.

Two ways we switch this on — both remote, no parts

Depending on model year and architecture, the Terrain Response programme set is enabled by one of two methods. We pick the correct one for your VIN — you do not need to know which in advance.

  • CCF editing over OBD — on cars that hold the Terrain Response Fitment flag (block 0x13, address 0x1347) in the Car Configuration File we set the value you chose and write it back against your As-Built, then re-configure the chassis and display modules so the programmes appear.
  • OEM-tool online configuration — where the module holding the flag needs its configuration re-issued from the manufacturer’s programming database rather than a direct CCF value, the same result is completed remotely through the OEM diagnostic tool’s online configuration for that module.

Either route is performed over the OBD diagnostic port, remote and mobile, with no bench work and no parts. The change is reversible the same way.
